Brazil is world famous for many things, its coffee, football,
rainforests, and also its street children, whose numbers run
into millions. Poverty in families living in favelas is endemic,
and conditions would be intolerable for everyone living in
the first world. Favela buildings are wooden shacks no bigger
than the average garage, often housing up to 20 people across
three generations.
Lack of education means they have little opportunity to learn
skills which could help them find employment. Tragically at
a very early age, many have given up hope for a better
future. Yet there is hope. You can make a real difference
to the lives of children born into this by sponsoring a child
today.
As a sponsor you can help more children

Voice for Change works to provide homes, educational, practical
and social skillls to children in Brazil. There are two main
areas we are focused on favelas and family homes.
Favelas
Voice for Change bought a derelict building in the heart
of a favela, on the outskirts of Curitiba. Through hard work
from visiting teams and VFC staff, it has been transformed
into a community centre. Children attend each day to learn
English and take part in art, craft and sport.
They receive individual support and attention from VFC staff.
There are over 100 different children who use the centre during
the week, and whose lives would benefit from your sponsorship.
Family homes
Voice for Change is establishing family homes. Children are
placed by the government authorities with parents in one of
our houses . Some children live with us long-term, receiving
emotional and physical support, preparing them for a possible
return to their natural family. We are committed to a family
feel in our homes with no more than 8 children living in one
house.

Q Can my help really make a difference?
A Yes! the proof is on the faces of the children as
they are supported and cared for in the favela and in the
family foster homes.
Q How can I be sure my money is well spent?
A All donations go directly towards the work in Brazil.
No money is spent on administration in UK. You will receive
our newsletter updating you on the work in Brazil.
Q Can I choose the child I sponsor?
A You can choose to sponsor either a girl or a boy from the
favela or from a VFC family home. From time to time, some
children disappear for one reason or another. If this happens
we’ll transfer your sponsorship to another child.
Q Will I hear from the child I sponsor?
A You will receive a photo of the child which will be updated
each year from your child.
Q How long should I continue to be a sponsor?
A To help achieve lasting change we hope your link with our
work and the child you sponsor will continue for a number
of years. But, if your circunstances change you can withdraw
your support at any time.
